The EU might “act quickly and firmly” against what it deems “unwarranted” visa bans issued by the US on five Europeans involved in combating online hate and misinformation, an EU official has said.
EU Officials Condemn US Action as ‘Coercion’
European leaders including the French president charged the US administration of “coercion and intimidation”, following the travel bans were placed on individuals who have been at the heart of campaigns to enact legislation governing American tech companies.
“For far too long, European activists have spearheaded coordinated campaigns to pressure American platforms to punish US perspectives they disagree with,” wrote the US secretary of state in a social media post. “The current administration will not stand for such actions of extraterritorial censorship.”
